Groote Schuur Hospital Nursing School Application

Groote Schuur Hospital is one of the Associated Academic Hospitals’ primary teaching hospitals, along with Tygerberg Hospital and Red Cross Children’s Hospital. The Health Service of the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, South Africa, contains these three hospitals. The hospital’s main functions include patient treatment (particularly at the tertiary and higher levels), teaching, and research. Patients are charged based on their income or whether or not they are enrolled in a medical assistance program.

The state funds the hospital through the provincial budget, a conditional grant for tertiary level services, and an education grant. Financial restrictions at the national and provincial levels have had a significant influence on the hospital’s health services in recent years. The hospital, the University of Cape Town, and the Health Sciences Faculty have a long-standing and formal connection. Other tertiary institutions with which the hospital has had close collaboration include the Carinus Nursing College (now included in the Western Cape College of Nursing), the University of the Western Cape, and the Technicon. We equip students from all of these with practical training possibilities.
